About Port Glasgow

Here are some details of Port Glasgow and the surrounding area. First a map to show that Port Glasgow, as it's name suggests, is on the coast of the Firth of Clyde, which is a large sea loch or estuary that eventually leads into the Atlantic Ocean. The population of Port Glasgow is about 25,000 and it is about 20 miles down river from the centre of Glasgow.  It was a shipbuilding town for hundreds of years, initially building wooden ships, Port Glasgow's main claim to fame is that they built the very first steamship in Europe but over the last 30 years most of the major shipyards have closed and there is just one small shipyard left.
